Artist Statement

Noelle Phares is a watercolor and mixed-media artist who brings a fresh perspective into her landscape paintings through abstract detail atop realistic subjects. She has been painting throughout the American West over the last decade. As an environmental scientist by training, she brings her left-brain attention to detail and discipline into her artwork, while allowing the same topics that drive her work in agricultural sustainability to seep into her art to inspire people to respect and wonder at natural resources. Her most recent body of work combines realistic landscape elements with structural geometry, exploring the ever-encroaching presence of humanity into previously pristine open spaces. She holds a BS in Biochemistry, and an MS in Environmental Science. She currently lives and paints out of Denver, CO.

Artist Bio

Noelle grew up in a small town in the Sierra Nevada. Throughout her life, she has tried to spend as much time as possible outside. The impossibility of re-creating the intricate beauty of the natural world drives her to add abstraction to her watercolor pieces through the use of alternative mediums such as embroidery – allowing the viewer to join her in an exploration of nature’s treasures. She believes that humans have been moving farther away from their wild roots, and she tries to bring outdoor inspiration and awe into her viewers’ daily lives with her artwork. Her favorite themes are abstract mountain and desertscapes- places that have always drawn her peacefully away from the hustle of human life and back to tranquil balance.
