Artist Bio

Evan Hecox (b. 1970) is a versatile artist and designer
whose work spans drawing, painting, printmaking, graphic
design, and illustration. Over the past three decades, he has
developed a distinctive style that captures the essence of
both urban and remote landscapes, inspired by his travels.
His work ranges from intimate drawings to expansive gallery
installations and murals, all characterized by a deep sense
of place and moment.
Growing up, Hecox spent summers in a small mining cabin
near Ashcroft, Colorado, a ghost town rich in history and
nostalgia. His parents, both artists, fostered his creativity
during their yearly visits to the Aspen Institute’s International
Design Conference. Although the cabin and conference
are long gone, the memories of those times are vividly
reflected in Hecox’s modern yet evocative images. His work
is a reinterpretation of iconic elements from both urban and
natural environments, capturing the passage of time with
precision and a touch of mystery.
Hecox’s art has been exhibited in solo and group shows
across the United States and internationally in Europe,
Australia, Japan, and Hong Kong. His design work is
influenced by a range of references, including Japanese
prints, European poster design, 1960s illustration, Bauhaus
typography, and folk art. He has been a key designer for
Chocolate Skateboards for over twenty years, with his
graphics widely recognized in skate culture and beyond.
His collaborations with brands like Hermès, Herschel, Vans,
Nike, and Volkswagen showcase his broad artistic reach.
Hecox currently lives and works in Denver, Colorado.
