Jeff Curry
Artist Statement
Zoom / Why did we stop smelling the roses? Are there suddenly so many roses that we’ve stopped appreciating them, or did we just stop stopping. This impressionistic photography dramatizes the beauty of nature through the lens of our increasingly short attention spans. Photography is said to capture a moment in time—this work defies that convention. Familiar subjects linger but soften like partially formed memories. Jeff pioneered a printing technique to create relief and a painterly texture, and designed substantial white lacquer frames that help define this series.
Artist Bio
Jeff formally emerged as a fine artist in 2009. His work remained personal since art school, focusing instead on a career in design and advertising. Starting in Chicago at DMB&B then Frankel, today he is Creative Director/Partner at SRG, an internationally recognized branding and innovation firm in Boulder Colorado. He has created award-winning work across industries and media, and has partnered with some of the nation’s top commercial artists and photographers.
Jeff’s fine art photography can vary so much from project to project that it can be hard to see a common thread. He explores not only ideas and techniques but every aspect of the production and presentation. He’s debated the merits of defining a more singular style with collectors and curators, but prefers to remain in a state of invention—perhaps the result of a profession that requires a fresh idea every day.
