Artist Statement

“I am searching for the sublime — the moments when an image, a sound, an emotion transport me. My interests are in the sensual, seductive qualities in life and I try to convey these ideas through my work.

Images often come to me from observing nature. I am touched by the delicate change of fading blossoms, moved by the almost painful intensity of a mahler symphonic line and mesmerized by the beauty of a partner’s body.

I watch for those times when my work becomes as powerful and poetic as the world around me and capable of touching me as deeply.”

Artist Bio

Mr. Wood is a Bay Area artist, with roots in Utah. He received his MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art in 1974 and currently resides with his husband in the Cultural Arts District of Emeryville, California.
