Artist Statement

Lisa Purdy is a versatile Colorado artist with a keen eye for color and line. Her paintings have been said to convey a sense of calm while incorporating a complex layering of lines and forms. She is adventurous and deliberate in creating abstract forms that speak to her and others who are willing to take her journey.

Lisa delights in the non-verbal world. As she says, “I start with a strong background color such as hot pink. Then I make a mark. Then I make a mark that responds to the first one. And so on. Eventually I realize I’ve gone to a new place on the canvas that I work to make both serene and exciting.”

Ms. Purdy attended school and spent her formative years at Cranbrook — a national Historic Landmark campus in Michigan. While there she was surround by the architecture and art of some of the most influential designers of the 1930s and beyond. Her later work in historic preservation and urban planning has primed her artwork for these themes.

Her Works on Paper are done with water-based oil and India ink on high quality watercolor paper. These works demonstrate a fluidity of line and color that seem to have an Asian influence.

Many of her pieces have been included in prestigious exhibits both statewide and in Denver, including Denver International Airport and the State Capitol. You can also see her artwork in corporate collections and private homes around the country. She is represented by Space Gallery in Denver, Colorado.

Ms. Purdy has been honored with local and regional awards through the years, yet she is always pushing for something new.
