Artist Statement

Paintings in mixed media on canvas, mostly based upon small plein air studies made at a local creek and inspired by 11th c. Chinese calligrapher Huang Tingjian.

My Meta-Motion series of paintings are abstracted images of rocks, rushing creek water and branches. A plastic, descriptive painterliness with calligraphic marks provoke the viewer to create their own interpretation of these unstable images, which hint at animal and plant forms.
