Artist Statement
Color is what drives my art. I can see a full rainbow of colors looking across a brown desert. The color in sand and stones, rusted metal, walls of old building, and marks people leave behind influence my choice of colors, blending bold hues with muted tones. Then there is texture; together with color; to me it is magic. I like the abstract but with structure. I see the tension between structure and the forces of nature. A truck tire print in snow and mud inspire me. I work in a number of mediums including print making and stone and glass sculpture. I’m not sure which direction my art will take me. That is one of the exciting things I love about fine art.
Artist Bio
Growing up in Switzerland I was always captivated by form, color and specifically architecture. My career choice always involved working with color and form. I was a dental technician for 20 years. My career began in Switzerland and in 1970. I moved to the USA for a short 2 year opportunity and I never left. I have been fortunate to have experienced many of the diversities of this country by living in Denver, the Roaring Fork Valley of Colorado, Phoenix, NYC, and now Santa Fe.
In 1988 I had enough of the dental world, took a few classes and began working as an interior designer. I eventually landed a position with a large commercial firm in NYC. It was a great experience but it turned out to be more management than creative design. So off I went to culinary school. I became a pastry chef in 1998 and started my own bakery in Brooklyn specializing in specialty cakes. My cakes were featured in Bridle Guide, Brides Magazine, and The Knot and appeared on CBS and NBC morning shows. But the hours were long and the stress of delivering a wedding cake in NY traffic was taking its toll. In 2005 my husband and I moved to Santa Fe, NM and after 30 years I discovered my passion for fine arts. I enrolled in classes at the Santa Fe Community College Fine Arts Center and attended many workshops with established local artists. The adventure continues.
